ROBERTO “SUPERMAN” GOMEZ

Roberto Gomez is a professional pool player and JFlowers ambassador from Zamboanga City, Philippines.

He fell in love with pool at a very young age, picking a cue at the age of 9. Throughout his younger years, he balanced pool and academics to which he graduated in Western Mindanao State University with an associates degree in Criminology and a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication.

After college, Gomez had a small stint in the broadcast industry, working as a regional reporter for ABS-CBN, one of the biggest news channels in the Philippines. After that, he decided to eventually pursue a career as a professional pool player. He immediately made a name for himself in his first major tournament, the 2007 World Nine-ball Championship, where he finished runner-up. He also made history in that tournament as the first qualifier to advance to the WPA World Nine-ball final.

Gomez is also known in the pool world as ‘Superman’. The person who has given this moniker was none other than his idol, Efren Reyes. The Magician would constantly call Gomez Superman because he always wear shirts with the Superman Emblem. The nickname stuck with Gomez, and the rest is history.

After the World Pool Championship, Gomez has won multiple titles since then. In 2018, he won the Derby City Classic Bigfoot 10-Ball Challenge against a young Fedor Gorst in a hill-hill thriller. He’s also established himself as one of the top One Pocket players. He won the International Open One Pocket in 2021. Three years later, he claimed the biggest payout from a One Pocket tournament, winning $152,000 in the Buffalo Pros Classic.

Renowned for his charismatic flair, both on and off the table, Superman is celebrated as a true entertainer blessed with extraordinary talent.
